Do you attack life or does it attack you?

It is not that hard a question…do you attack life with a vengeance, wrestle it to the ground, and grab the championship trophy or does life attack you from every angle, does everything you step in turn out to be poo?

I guess there is a middle ground somewhere, but I can’t seem to find it.

This conversation may turn really weird, I’m sitting in Starbucks (SB) because the air conditioner went out at my house yesterday. Can’t get it repaired till tomorrow. If you know anything about Texas you know we had a miserable night last night. Anyway, why might our conversation “turn weird”, you should hear some of the conversations going on around me…really, I may have to comment on some of them. I promise you there is a “Fonzie” guy in here giving a young male barista advice about women.

Did ya’ll see “Hot Tub Time Machine”? I just heard him say “munchies”. Maybe I am not really at Starbucks, maybe I am dreaming…nope, I am actually writing so it can’t be a bad “retro” dream. The “kicker” to this story is the “Fonzie” guy says he doesn’t have a woman! Although he says he has lots of “young chicks”, LOL. Oh, he just said he isn’t a clean freak, he likes a clean house though. Not a clean freak, but you can eat off his “motor”, not what you are thinking, he works on cars, go figure. Please, if I am being a menopausal *$#@!, just let me know.

Hmmm, there is a young family here…eating breakfast…yea, they must hate their kids if they think any of the food here is “healthy”.

I must have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.

I really like working here at my local SB, the music is soothing, and I can always put in my ear phones if it gets too chaotic. Usually there are people meeting here to “sell” something, have a bible study, or do homework.

Ok, I have probably bored you enough. Tell me, please, do you frequent your local SB? Any SB? If so, what do you order? Do you hang out for a while? Drive thru? I just noticed they now have “free Wi-Fi” for everyone…that must explain why I can’t get online <smirk>. Whew, finally got online, I am so “not” techie and so “grumpy” this morning.

For what it’s worth this is a “Bonus Post”. Not one of my regularly scheduled conversations.

By the way I have added a couple of new pages to the site. In particular, I added a “Zumba” page. Check it out. Ok, don’t check it out until I get something posted on it J Our conversations may be a little erratic between now and September 13 as I am preparing for Zumba classes that will begin on that date.

As usual, thanks for letting me share as I face life with lupus,

XOXOXOs, Ruby

I have been working very hard on the direction I want this conversation to go, but wouldn’t you know I reached a fork in the road. I have been jotting down topics and quotes, recipes and trivia, “aha!” and “duh!” moments to share, but they may have to wait.

This Tuesday’s post is going to start a three month project. Let’s call the project “Test Don‘t Guess“. I chose this project because of laboratory test results that I got last Thursday evening. I have been so faithful to my food plan and so-so with exercise since February of this year. Mick, my husband, even embraced my food plan and lost 30 pounds. Yes, he looks awesome now. I lost 10, but then hit a plateau that seems never ending. Ladies, has this ever happened to you? Guys don’t gloat it isn’t attractive!
In spite of the scale not going down I was really anxious to get my labs done and see dramatic improvements in my cholesterol. Dang it, I saw dramatic results alright, only in the wrong direction. Please tell me I am not the only person this has happened to.

My doctor and I have discussed cholesterol medication over the years and I have tried a few but after all the meds I took during my severe lupus flare I gag just thinking about taking pills not to mention all the possible side effects. Well, my doctor and I worked out a reasonable agreement. I will be using a supplement she recommended to lower my cholesterol along with my current eating plan and a little more dedication to exercise. Come on people, show me some love and support during this endeavor. In three months I will have the labs done again and follow up with my doctor. I agreed to take cholesterol medication if my numbers don’t go down. So over the next three months I will be including lab numbers, photo’s, video, weight, body fat %, and inch loss stats. I won’t bore you with all the details of every bite I eat, but I will discuss challenges that I encounter.

Additionally, my thyroid results were low, so my Synthroid dosage was increased. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Disease about 20 years ago. Wow, two autoimmune diseases and “menopause“…do you feel my frustration? High five, if you have double autoimmune disease. We can start an exclusive club or support group <evil grin> just kidding.

Earlier today I told one of my girlfriends I feel like I am throwing myself under the bus with this commitment! What do you think? Can I do it? The drama will begin to unfold in tomorrow’s post. Details will be disclosed and strategies divulged.
