About Me
Hey ya’ll, my name is Ruby Aguilar and I am a Lupus survivor. I was diagnosed with Lupus in April 2002 and at the time it seemed like a death sentence. I actually read in a book while I was in the hospital that the life expectancy after a lupus diagnosis was about 10 years. And I still replay in my mind when my Doctor told me I wasn’t a candidate for a lung transplant. Well there was no death sentence and what we know about Lupus has come a long way, baby. I was hesitant to start with ”Hey, ya’ll”, but that really is my true life greeting being a Texan. I have lots of facets to my life other than Lupus and Texas. I am an avid Walmart shopper. Not trying to give Walmart a shout out, just sayin’. I stalk “Ross” stores for bargins. A bargin being a new top for work costing no more than $8.00. T.M.I. right? I am a real everyday person just like you.
Are you a Zumba Fitness fan? I am. That’s why I became a Zumba instructor and Certified Group Fitness professional a few years ago. That stepping stone led me to getting my Personal Trainer Certification. I am not a doctor, nurse, registered dietitian, Ph.D, certified nutritionist (yet), celebrity of any kind. I am an informed consumer and believe strongly in holistic lifestyles. Under peer pressure by my younger sister I got my first tatoo when I was 50. I think I am a “hippy”. Funny <grin> my parents wouldn’t allow me to be a hippy when I was growing up!
I am currently employed in a 40 hour a week position at a hospital that isn’t nearly as fun as working in the fitness industry. But how in the world can I make the transition from one profession to another and at my age some would think this is a crazy idea. Well, I invite you to join me as I proceed on this journey because it isn’t just about me transitioning, it is about my mission to help others with autoimmune disease or any condition that makes losing weight and exercising a bit more challenging. Having worked part time for a weight loss group and another fitness franchise I discovered that health and fitness are my passion, but I could never figure out how my passion could pay the bills. With the support and encouragement of my family, friends, and a couple of really awesome mentors I am reaching for the golden ring as I ride this merry-go-round of life.
I hope you will join me as I “Face Life with Lupus”
